Extended Day Program

At Wingra we believe that learning never ends. Students enjoy continuing their day at Wingra in this fun, engaging after school program in tune with Wingra’s progressive philosophy. Our Extended Day Program is not your average after school option, and both students and parents rave about it!

The program is developed to satisfy the needs of the whole child, and each day is well-balanced with organized choices, free play, and group time. We provide a healthy snack each day.

Daily activities are part of a monthly, thematic unit and vary in order to engage a multi-age group of children with a variety of interests, including field trips, science experiments, and outdoor play. Our program is flexible yet structured in order to nurture a safe and connected group of friends.

Dawn Liska-Tollefson coordinated the Extended Day Program. We are happy to announce that physical education teacher, Taylor Reeves, joins Dawn in teaching in Extended Day this year.

Programs and Pricing

We’ve divided our program into four basic types. You will be billed for the actual number of days registered or dropped-in each month.  You will be billed through your TADS account at the end of each month.

Half Day Program (Noon Dismissal)

There are five days in the 2015–16 school year when classes are dismissed at noon for teacher meetings and development. This takes place during the first week of school when students are dismissed at noon each day:

First Week of School (August 31–September 4)

  • Full Program: 12:00–5:45 p.m. for $40/day
  • Half Program: 12:00–3:15 p.m. for $23/day
  • Drop-in: 12:00–5:45 p.m. for $45/day

Early Release Mondays (2:00 p.m. Dismissal)

Early Release Mondays are science-focused programs. Students go to the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery for hands-on experiments:

  • Full Program: 2:00–5:45 p.m. for $26/day
  • Half Program: 2:00–4:30 p.m. for $17/day
  • Drop-in: 2:00–5:45 p.m. for $30/day

Early Morning Drop-off

Did you know we offer an early morning drop-off at 7:45 a.m. free of charge? Students meet in the music room for quiet reading, writing, or drawing.

Please let Elizabeth in the main office know a week in advance!

After 8:15 a.m., students arriving at Wingra will enjoy a few minutes on the playground instead of coming to the music room.

After School (Tuesdays–Fridays)

During After School, we play on the playground, take trips to the Glen, enjoy unit-based activities, and free choice time in the room and gym:

  • Full Program: 3:15–5:45 p.m. for $17/day
  • Half Program: 3:15–4:30 p.m. for $9/day
  • Drop-in: 3:15–5:45 p.m. for $22/day

All Day Program (No School)

All Day Programs include special outings to places such as the Children's Museum, Madison Ice Arena, Vilas Zoo, and UW Campus.

There are 10 days in the 2015–16 school year when classes are not in session due to conferences and teacher work days:

  • Friday, September 18: Goal Setting Conferences
  • Monday, October 12: Conference Prep
  • Friday, October 30: Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Friday, November 6: Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Monday, November 30: Professional Development
  • Friday, February 5: Professional Development
  • Monday, February 8: Conference Prep
  • Thursday, March 3: Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Friday, March 4: Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Friday, June 3: Goal Feedback Conference

On these days we plan a variety of activities on and off campus. You may need to pick your child up off campus if registering for the half program. We do not offer a drop-in option on these days.

  • Full Program: 8:30 a.m.–5:45 p.m. for $65/day
  • Half Program: 8:30 a.m.–1:15 p.m. or 1:15–5:45 p.m. for $32/day

The drop-in option is for families who only require care sporadically or at the last minute. Please keep in mind that space is limited and we are not always able to accommodate very last minute drop-ins. Purchasing a Punch Card provides a discount off of drop-in rates but does not guarantee availability.

We offer after school clubs again this year. Clubs are topic-specific and generally run four to six weeks. Club information and registration is sent out during the school year as clubs are scheduled. See the after school clubs list and registration (.pdf) from last year.

Pick-up Time

The latest pick-up time for all programs is 5:45 p.m. If you registered for a half-program, you must pick up your child at the designated time. We will allow a five-minute grace period. After five minutes, you will be charged the full program rate.

A simple snack is provided each day. If your child has specific dietary needs or taste preferences, we encourage you to send along a snack for him or her. It is very important that children have sufficient fuel to help them through the rest of the day.

Monthly Registration

In order to benefit from the lowest daily rates, we ask that you register your children by the first of the month, each month. Otherwise, you will be charged the drop-in rate. You may register for more than one month at a time if your schedule is consistent.

You may change your registration if your needs should change, but dates must be set by the first of every month. You may register by filling out and turning in a registration form (.pdf) in the office.

You may also email Dawn ( to register. For last minute drop-in registration, please contact Elizabeth in the office if you are unable to reach Dawn.
