Parent Service

At Wingra School, we have always depended on parent volunteers to help with school events and activities. Working on the premise that many hands make light work, we ask all parents to sign up for specific events and activities of interest.

All Parents' Participation Expected

Parents are routinely asked to undertake tasks in their child's classroom. That could include driving for a class field trip, providing classroom snacks as assigned, and participating in other class-level activities, as requested by teachers. Sky parents (except graduating families) plan and host the graduation picnic.

Families also contribute to many successful endeavors at our school, including

  • our lunch program (pizza on Mondays and hot lunch from Willy Street Co-op on Fridays);
  • family events, such as the Wingra Family Dance, our spring Community Celebration, Fun Day, etc;
  • assistance with periodic needs, including coordinating school pictures, helping keep our website current, and setting up and supervising concerts;
  • help with fundraisers (Fair Trade coffee and tea sales, Wingra Wear, Simplified Scrip);
  • and much more!

Early each summer, parents are asked their preferences for service opportunities for the coming year through a parent service form (.pdf). In the fall, we let parents know how they can help the school, based on their expressed preferences.

Those parents who are not able to volunteer at the school are contacted for a monetary contribution, traditionally called SWAP (Supporting Wingra Without Participation). To arrange for SWAP, please contact Bonnie at 238-2525 or email info@wingraschool.org.
